Some 56K modems are not able to correctly negotiate a connection with other non-56K modems.
If you have a 56K modem and are experiencing difficulties connecting to the Buffalo Free-Net please determine
the type of modem you have (X2, K56 FLEX or V90) and follow the workaround approriate for your modem
from the list below.
For X2 modems:
Add S32=34 to the end of your modem init string.
For K56Flex modems:
Add +MS=11,0,9600,33600 to the end of your modem init string.
or
set S38=0 <-- this is not yet verified
For V90 modems:
Add -v90=0 to the end of your modem init string.
For U.S. Robotics 56k V.90 on bad phone lines
try S32=98.
(Thanks to Paul D. Wurtz for the US Robotics tip above.)
Consult your Operating System or computer manuals and/or your modem manuals for specific instructions on how to
modify your modem's initialization string.
If these methods do not work for you, please contact you computer manufacture or reseller for further assistance.
