What's new in Pine 3.96
New Export Download subcommand.
Using this feature you will be able to directly download your
email to your own machine using the traditional serial line file
transfer protocols kermit, zmodem, xmodem, ymodem, or to print
the mail directly to the terminal so that you may capture it in a
file.
To use the download feature simply Export a letter and select
Control-V (^V Download) from the submenu. You can use the Select,
Apply, Export/Download command sequence to download your entire
mail file or selected portions of it at one time in one file if
you want. A download command is also provided in the attachments
menus to directly download any attachments to a received email.
The downloaded mail files are in Berkeley Standard Format -
i.e, all headers beginning with the 'From ' line - and are
suitable for importing into other mail clients that support it.
An upload command is also defined for attachments. When
selecting an attachment for a new piece of mail, select ^V Upload
from the submenu and type in the name of the file to be upload.
You'll have a choice of the following upload serial line transfer
protocols: kermit, ymodem and zmodem (xmodem is only available
for downloads). The uploaded file will be placed in your 'work'
directory.
Other new features or options:
- You may now change the personal name that appears in your
email and news articles.
- If you get disconnected Pine should do a better job of
saving your partially written message. This does not apply
if you let your online time expire.
- You can subscribe (Add) multiple news groups at one time
by using the 'L'ist command in the news group selection
list.
- You can edit your signature file from Pine. On the main
Pine menu select Settings then Signature.
- Addressbook can now be exported, and its index printed.
- The Print command now allows you to print the content of
the Index file.
- You can now configure Pine to send a Form Feed between
printed mail messages (see the configuration options on
the Main menu).
- More sorting options available in the Configuration
section.
- The Cut Line command can be configured to Cut the line
from the current cursor position to the end of the line,
rather than the whole line.
- If you cancel a letter Pine will save the letter in a
file called dead.letter in your work directory, this can
be disabled.
- You can now set the column at which Pine will wrap text.
- You can also change the number of lines Pine will show
from the previous page of text when paging through a
message - the default is 2.
For advanced users:
- It's now possible to configure Pine to use Function Keys
for commands instead of the current Control Key set. Due
to the fact that many communications programs poorly
implement the DEC VT escape sequences this is
not a recommended option, however it may be
worth a try if you have trouble using your Control keys
to send commands.
- You can hide the help lines at the bottom of the screen -
not recommended.
- You can now rearrange and personalize the information
shown in the Index page. See the Index-Format setting in
the Settings/Configuration options and read the online
help for it (^G).
- You can now select which headers Pine will display when
you are reading mail.
- You can configure pine to show the dialog between it and
our SMTP or NNTP server program. This is a debug feature
and not recommended since it
slows things down on your end. You'll be shown a
temporary file containing the text of the dialog between
the client (Pine) and the server. You then have to close
this file.
Sample output:

See the Settings/Config options on the main Pine menu for
others options not covered here.
All of your settings from Pine 3.91 will be carried over to Pine
