Personal Use Account

The Buffalo Free-Net provides basic internet access with its Personal Use accounts. Personal Use accounts are available to all New York State residents at no cost. Dialup access in Erie and Niagara counties is provided. Users with other Internet access accounts are encouraged to use telnet to access their Buffalo Free-Net account.

Services provided to Personal Use accounts include access to Email, World Wide Web, UseNet, personal web pages and one megabyte of disk space for mail and web pages. All access is via a text based interface accessible by any communications program or telnet client capable of VT100 or better terminal emulation. Online time is limited to sixty minutes per visit. Graphical web browsers or other user run client software is not supported. PPP/SLIP accounts and IP services are not provided.

Personal Use accounts are provided for individual use only. Commercial activities are prohibited.

Applying for an Account

  1. Read the Acceptable Use Policy
  2. Read and print the Buffalo Free-Net Release Form
  3. Complete the online application
  4. Sign, date and return by postal mail the release form
    to the address provided

No account will be created unless all these steps are followed and all information requested on the online application is completed fully and honestly. Your account will be created within one to two weeks after we recieve your signed and dated release form.
