Modems and Disk Space
Thanks in part to your donations we will be ordering up to sixteen new professional quality modems to replace the unstable consumer quality modems in the current modem pool. Additionally, remote management software and hardware will be purchased allowing better monitoring of all the modems and off-site correction of modem problems should they develop. Additional disk space will be purchased at the same time.

These two purchases should alleviate the current dial in problems and the chronic disk space shortage in the user's home directories. At this time there is no timetable for these upgrades. As the ordering process moves forward we will be better able to determine delivery and installation times.

The version of Kermit accessible from the file transfer page has been upgraded. This upgrade should correct the problem with Kermit sending text files in binary mode, and should provide more reliable upload transfers. Faster transfer rates should be seen. If your version of the Kermit protocol supports sliding windows and extended packets, you should see transfers rates comparable to Kermit in server mode. (6/9)
